Wearing an AI That Listens: A Practical Etiquette Guide for Bee Owners

The hardest part of owning a Bee is not the app. It is other people. Here is a field guide for the situations you will actually meet.
At work
- Say it at the start of the meeting, the way people say "I'll take notes". Most colleagues will be relieved someone is.
- Offer the summary. Sharing Bee's write-up turns a privacy worry into a favour.
- Check your company's policy. Many employers ban unapproved recording tools, especially in HR, legal and client meetings.
At home
- Family dinners are where Bee is most tempting ("what did we decide about the holiday?") and most awkward. Ask once, agree a rule, and use the button.
- Children cannot meaningfully consent. Keep Bee off in conversations that are mainly about them unless you are, say, writing up a pediatrician's instructions.
With doctors and carers
Bee's care-plan template is one of its most useful features: elderly parents' medication changes and physiotherapy instructions are exactly what people forget. Ask the clinician first. Most will agree if you explain it is for your notes.
In class
Students: the lecture template is useful, but many universities restrict recording lectures. Ask the instructor, and never share transcripts publicly.
On calls (Eclipse)
Eclipse prompts you to get permission each time a recording starts. Do not just tap through it. Say it out loud.
When someone asks "Is that recording?"
Answer honestly, explain that audio is deleted after processing and only text notes remain, and offer to switch it off. Then actually switch it off.
Make the light visible
Frontier's LED is tiny; Eclipse looks like a battery pack. Wear Frontier clipped where the light shows, and do not hide Eclipse under a pocket flap.
Set auto-off
On Frontier, set auto-off to 5 minutes of silence. It stops the device drifting on into conversations you never meant to capture.
